Technical Assistance to Strengthen Post-Pandemic HIV Prevention and Control Capacities in the Peruvian Armed Forces

In a new 4-year phase, COOPERASALUD II will provide technical assistance to the Peruvian military, conducive to improving, under the U=U paradigm, the quality of care with regard to HIV prevention (from a combination prevention perspective); as well as the continuum of HIV care (testing, treatment and viral suppression), with special attention to the HIV/TB coinfection, and confronting the stigma and discrimination that surround the HIV epidemic, among military personnel and their families. It also considers activities oriented
to strengthening the military health system, including data management systems and COPRECOS’ laboratory.

Finally, given the recent HIV outbreak in the Northern Peruvian regions of Piura and Tumbes, it is incorporating new sites where regular COOPERASALUD activities will be performed; regular NG/CT PCR testing for ADM females is also being incorporated as per recommendation of the SABERS study. The program acknowledges the losses and deficiencies caused by the COVID crisis and the restrictions decided by the governments of many countries including Peru and intends to support the identification and closing of remaining gaps as part of
its key activities.
